Edna was a fantastic cook and owned a catering company for many years. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Fireman’s Fund where she eventually retired in 1980. After retiring, Edna and Joe enjoyed many vacations on Maui, many cruises and most of all Edna enjoyed watching her grandsons grow up. Joseph Jr. and Jason Pirolo were two of Edna’s greatest joys. She was as proud a grandma as any grandma could be and enjoyed many family activities with them including one of her most recent happiest moments, attending Joseph’s wedding in 2012.

It all began with Rennie Wilsnak, the driving force behind NMC. While teaching prenatal exercise classes at the Palo Alto Recreation Department, Wilsnak began discussing breastfeeding and had nursing moms come to her class to demonstrate. She was soon inundated with women who wanted breastfeeding help, so in 1955 she recruited three graduates of her prenatal class to take phone calls and do home visits. The newly formed NMC did research on topics that eventually became a training manual. Their counselors are highly trained volunteers. To fulfill the requirements of a fully trained counselor, women must have breastfed for at least 6 months, attended 21 hours of breastfeeding education, attended an NMC breastfeeding class, shadowed with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in a hospital or clinical setting, and passed a comprehensive exam. New counselors also serve a provisional period for six to twelve months under the guidance of an experienced member.

“From a Silicon Valley point of view, they all want to pay lower taxes, but I don’t think (a reduced corporate rate) is going to have a major impact. They are in many cases paying lower tax rates,” said International Business Strategies analyst Handel Jones. Analysts expect that political wrangling over paying for tax cuts will ultimately mean a higher corporate rate than 15 percent. The Trump plan also proposed a “one-time tax” on overseas cash brought back to the U.S., but did not specify a rate. The repatriation is expected to be mandatory.
